Children born between April 2nd 2016 and April 1st 2017 will be able to enter elementary school from April 2023. At elementary, the education lasts 6 years. After graduating from the elementary school, students can enter junior high school where the education lasts 3 years.
Tuition at public elementary and junior high schools is free. However, lunch expenses, instructional materials, event fees, etc. will be charged.
For children of foreign nationality who have reached the age of entering public elementary and junior high school in April 2023, an admission guide will be sent to their homes from November 2022 on. If you are enrolling your child in a municipal elementary or junior high school from April 2023, please submit the [Enrollment Application – Shuugaku Todokedesho] to the School Affairs Division (Gaimuka) as soon as possible. Now, in case of those enrolling the child in schools other than the municipal ones, please submit the [Questionnaire Form – Chousahyou] to the School Affairs Division.
Those who have submitted the enrollment at municipal elementary and junior high school will receive a [Notification of Enrollment-Nyugaku Tsuchi] by mail. When you receive it, please bring the form with you at the first day of school (Entrance ceremony –Nyugakushiki)
